Here I have drawn a collection of tools, initially going for a random arrangement but then deciding on a more organised layout, a better fit for man made objects I felt. I decided to add colour to the surface between the drawing of the tools to help allow for a better contrasts between the tones of the tools i.e., didn't want the lightest areas of the tools to match that of the surrounding worktop.
In the final picture the tools look, to me, like text on a page or fossils in a rock not a quality that I got from the studies... perhaps I should have stuck to a more cluttered arrangement providing more interesting negative spaces.
Pleased with the shadow effect achieved with grey marker pen, which slightly bled into the mount board in a good way.
Tools quickly returned to the garden shed didn't raise my wife's hopes about outstanding D.I.Y jobs being tackled... still have another still life to complete.

Second Drawing - Still Life Study of Natural Forms
In the second drawing a I have gone with fruit and vegetables as the subject matter (drawn and eaten same day). In this drawing I decided on portrait layout to help make the most of the vertical/height of the pineapple. This drawing along with the 1st was done on an A1 sheet of mount board, however unlike the first drawing I made more of a conscious effort to vary the marks I used and experimented more so in the final picture that I should have done (should have worked this out in one of my studies) on the skin of the pineapple and found myself favouring the black biro to get the effects I wanted.
Happier with the composition/finished result of the second drawing though I possibly could have drawn the objects on a larger scale, and perhaps added some dark tones in the stems of the spring onions (object between the two lemons).
My favourite detail, the lemon in the foreground, my wife's the spring onion stem that is bent possibly caught on the shopping basket... I would like to think that I had deliberately drawn this loose stem to echo the curve of the pineapple and enhance the composition
